Blues dance is a modern term that describes a diverse collection of African American vernacular dances, such as the Slow Drag, Blues Walk, Fishtailin’, and Ballroomin’. Unlike its historical contemporary Swing dancing, Blues dancing never attained broad social approval and appeal, and thus retained fundamental African principles of movement such as emphasis on the hips, syncopation, call and response, and dancing within a boundary. The generally simple one- and two-step patterns of blues dance allow for ultimate creativity and nuance in movement.

I'm brand new, where do I start?
With Blues 1, or a beginner level solo class. Intro level classes move at a medium pace to give you a chance to master the basics before getting out on the social floor.
Do I need a partner?
Nope! Blues is a social dance, so everyone dances with everyone! If you come as a couple, you can choose to dance just with each other, but most folks like to join in with their classmates.
